How to add social media icons to WordPress

Practical walkthroughs for the most common setups.

These guides use Fuse Social Icons, but the principles apply whichever plugin you use. Looking for the reference documentation instead? That lives in the docs.

Add a floating social icon bar

  1. Install Fuse Social from Plugins → Add New and activate it.
  2. Open Fuse Social in your admin menu.
  3. On the Profile icons tab, pick your networks and paste the full profile URL for each — including https://.
  4. Drag the rows to set the order your visitors will see.
  5. Switch to the Floating bar tab and turn on Enable floating bar.
  6. Choose left, right or bottom, then save.

The bar appears on every page by default. Use display rules if you want it hidden somewhere.

Add social icons to your header or menu

  1. In a block theme: open Appearance → Editor, edit the header template, and insert the Fuse Social Icons block.
  2. In a classic theme: paste the
    shortcode into your header via your theme options, or call do_shortcode('
    ')     in the template.
  3. To sit them beside your menu links, add the block to the header area next to the navigation rather than inside the menu itself.

Override shape and size per block if the header needs smaller icons than your floating bar.

Put social icons in your sidebar or footer

  1. Go to Appearance → Widgets.
  2. Drag the Fuse Social Icons widget into your sidebar or footer area.
  3. Set a title if you want one, and choose whether it shows your profile links or your share buttons.

Footer icons usually look best in monochrome — set the colour style to match rather than using full brand colours twice on one page.

Add share buttons to your posts

  1. Open the Share buttons tab and turn on Enable share buttons.
  2. Choose your channels and drag them into order. All 21 channels are free.
  3. Pick a placement — before your content is the free option; after content, a floating sidebar and a sticky mobile bar are Pro.
  4. Use the
    shortcode if you want them somewhere specific instead.

Add a WhatsApp click-to-chat button

  1. Open the Floating bar tab and find Chat bubble.
  2. Turn it on and pick WhatsApp, Messenger or Telegram.
  3. Enter your number in full international format, without spaces or a plus sign.
  4. Optionally pre-fill the first message so visitors do not start from a blank chat.

The chat bubble is a Pro feature. It sits in the bottom corner and does not collide with the floating bar.

Hide social icons on specific pages or on mobile

  1. To hide on mobile, open the Floating bar tab and turn off Show on mobile — or switch to the sticky mobile bar instead.
  2. To hide on particular pages, open Display rules and add a rule for the pages or post types you want excluded.
  3. To keep the bar off your hero, turn on Appear only after scrolling and set a pixel offset.

Display rules are a Pro feature. The free version can still hide the bar on mobile.
